All About Katy
Katy Bisby grew up in a tiny town in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. When she was 7 years old, her parents decided there was too much immorality to be learned from her fellow classmates in 2nd grade, so her mother spent the next 5 years homeschooling her and her older sister. Because of this decision, Katy spent the majority of her childhood adolescence reading, drawing, and going to the Southern Baptist church where her father preached.
Katy’s art is very much inspired by this part of her life. Her work often focuses on religious and literary symbolism combined with imagery reminiscent of childhood. She is inspired both by illustrations from the books she read as a child and by contemporary pop surrealist artists like Mark Ryden and Audrey Kawasaki.
Katy currently lives outside of Chicago with her husband, James, and her two cats.
